Recommend a washing machine, please!

My machine has been diagnosed as needing a new motor and is uneconomical to repair.

It was a Siemens and I was very happy with it. I have young family and so use the machine a lot. My criteria would be:

spin speed 1000 or more
6-7kg load
quiet!
reliable, of course

price - looking for good value, but don't mind paying a bit more if its worth it.

thank you for any recommends - or ones to avoid!

  • Tricity Bendix - I look after a lot of properties and we have an excellent white goods repair man who swears by them! They don't have fancy dials and lots of gadgets that can go wrong and are extremely reasonably priced. We now buy them for all our residential properties.

If you can afford it I'd go for Miele. You also get a standard 5 years parts and labour warranty included. If you do some research I'm sure you'd get it cheaper than on the high street.;)

Definitely buy Bosch or Siemens (same company). The motor or the bearings go eventually (after about 5 years) but these machines are more reliable than most. And it's not true that motor or bearing replacement is uneconomical. Depends who you get to do it.

just to clarify, my machine was at least 4 years old but probably more - was in our house when we moved in so I don't know the history other than its an old model. Engineer told me motor would cost £200, then labour on top of that, therefore I would call that uneconomical. :undecided

thanks for all the tips everyone!

  • I've had a fairly cheap Indesit for the best part of 9 years, and no problems (touch wood) - have I been lucky? I must have only paid around 250 quid for it.
  • I've just replaced an old Hoover that was in house when we bought it. Went for a Bosch since I was impressed by the one we left behind (hindsight is wonderful). Got this one at Co-op Electrical http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/products/ProductDetail.asp?ProductCode=BOS-WSH-WAE24465-W
but you may find it cheaper elsewhere. This machine is wonderfully quiet and the LCD display makes using it a breeze.

I've been on the search for a new washing machine, so thank you for all the advice found so far on this site. The machine I was looking for had to have three qualities; 1) 1600 spin 2) 8kg load 3) good reports from owners. I found that machine to be the Bosch WAS32466GB.

The best price I have found is from the coop at; £479.99

I printed the page and did try the high street to see if I could 'do a deal' but no one could beet this price, so I'm confident I have a good deal?

Have I done right by not buying the extended cover... it's £150 for 5 more years. Should I have bought this now, or is it best left until the manufactures one has run out?

    Thanks

That looks like agood deal to me. I don't know what the standard warranty is on it?

It normally works out cheaper to get your own extended warranty if you want one.;)
